A Tribute to the Life of Lee Kavanaugh
September 11, 1938-June 19, 2013
Lee Kavanaugh, former Montgomery Ruritan Club President and Board Member passed away suddenly on Wednesday Morning June 19, 2013 at the Daviess County Hospital in Washington Indiana after a brief illness. Lee Kavanaugh was a dedicated Member of the Club and made major contributions to the Club and to his community. Along with serving President for the Club he also served on the Board and served in various capacities as a club member and the Turkey Trot Turkey Trot Festival. He was truly a dedicated member of the club and worked on various projects in whatever tasks he was called on to do.
Members of the community had the utmost respect for his accomplishments and for his contributions the community but also to the Loogootee Schools where he taught and Coached for over 40 years. For all that knew him realized he always went at anything he took on and gave it 110%. His involvement in sports was a big part of his life but what he did for the Community and his Church and St. Vincent De Paul Society working with the less fortunate was truly remarkable. He served President of the St. Peter’s St. Vincent De Paul Society and worked at the Washington St. Vincent De Paul Store and was on St. Peter’s Parish Council and was always available for any project that he was called to do around St. Peters Church or St. Peter’s Cemetery. He also sang in the St. Peter’s Choir with his brothers Louie and Dave and sang for many of funerals over the years.
We all know that Lee is probably best known as one of the great Jr-High Coaches around when he coached at Loogootee. He retired from Coaching in the Fall of 2011. Many area coaches felt that had a quality win if they were able to defeat one of Lee’s team that he coached.
Lee will truly be missed by his Family, His Church, His Community and of course his many friends that paid their final respects while he was laid to rest. We offer our condolences to his Wife Irma and his three sons, Jeff, Steven and Jason and their families. The Montgomery Ruritan Club is truly grateful to Lee for all his efforts over the many years he served. He will always be remembered and will truly be missed. May God Grant Him His Eternal Reward!
