Turkey Trot Winner
Shown above is Kameron Graber (right) as he is presented the Championship Trophy after he won the finals of the Turkey Trot race over the weekend. Dewayne Shake the Turkey Trot Chairman made the presentation following the race. Kameron Graber won with a time of 13:59 seconds over the second place finisher Kaden Roark who had 16:41 seconds and third place was Eric Wagler with 20:00 seconds. Kameron is the son of Frank and Barb Graber of Montgomery. Over 80 racers tried their luck at racing a turkey down the track. Large crowds turned out for the events in spite of the light rain on Friday night and early Saturday. The sun came out Saturday afternoon and was perfect weather the rest of the weekend. Kameron is the son of Frank and Barb Graber of Montgomery. Pulls praised his crew of helpers for their hard work and the Dinky Center on getting the event moved on such a short notice and for it’s Hugh success.
Horse Pull Winners
Shown above is the winning team of horses who out pulled 14 other teams in the Horse Pulls that was held at the Turkey Trot over the weekend. Shown above is Ron Clemons the driver on the left, Ed Findley the owner on the right of the horses and extreme right is Gary Wagler the Co-Chairman of the Horse Pulls. This team of horses is born and raised here in Daviess County as well as 90% of the horses that pulled in the Turkey Trot. This team of horses was also the winning team at the Indiana State Fair this year in August. The Horse Pulls at the Turkey Trot this year has some of the best pullers in the Midwest as teams and owners traveled a great distance to be on hand for the event. The Horse Pulls for the Turkey Trot was moved to the Dinky Center because of the wet track at Montgomery but still drew one of the largest crowds ever for the event. John “Peanut” Knepp, Co-Chairman for the Horse Pulls praised his crew of helpers for their hard work and the Dinky Center on getting the event moved on such a short notice and for it’s Hugh success.
Turkey Races
Shown above is one of the semi-final heats held this past Saturday Night at the Turkey Trot grounds. At the right is Noah Anderson son of Matt and Rachel Anderson of Montgomery as he is ready to cross the finish line one second ahead of Mitchell Kavanaugh son of Louie III and Kris Kavanaugh also of Montgomery. Noah Anderson won this heat and qualified as one of the five finalists in the championship race which was held on Sunday. Also seen in this picture is one of the timers Bob Ellis as he has the stop watch on the winner. The turkey races were moved to the grass area just north of the track because of the rain. Normally they are run on the track where all the Tractor/Truck and Demo is held.
2010 Service Award Winners
Shown above are the Montgomery Ruritan Club Service Award Winners which was presented on stage at the Montgomery Turkey Trot just prior to the Mark Wills Show the past Saturday Night. Shown here left to right is Dewayne Shake Turkey Trot Chairman, Service Award Winners Lowell Graber and Lee Kavanaugh both of Montgomery. Also shown here is Elmer Lee Graber the Montgomery Ruritan Club President who helped in the presentation. Both Lowell Graber and Lee Kavanaugh have both served as President of the Organization as well as many other positions in the Club and on the Turkey Trot Committees. Both Men have worked in the organization for many years and given countless hours to the Montgomery Ruritan Club.
Horse Pull
Shown above is one of the teams of horses as it pulls at the Turkey Trot Horse Pulls which was moved to the Dinky Center because of the wet track at Montgomery Turkey Trot Grounds. A large crowd turned out for the event as it was held inside the north barn.
11-15 Pig Wrestling Team
Shown above is the winning team in the 11-15 year old Class at the Pig Wrestling Contest at the Montgomery Turkey Trot. Holdin their plaques is (L/R) Caleb Carrico, Christina Smith, Kristen Wilson and Jakob Sibak. This team won with a time of 25.5 seconds.
Demo Winners

Mud Volleyball Winners

Tractor Pull
Shown above is Lowell Graber as he pulls in the Tractor Pulls with his Allis Chambers D-21 on the First Night. Lowell Graber is a long time member of the Montgomery Ruritan Club, is a past president and is on the Ruritan Board. A good crowd turned out for the pulls but the Truck pulls were cancelled on Saturday because of the rain. That turned out to be the only event cancelled as all other events took place with some adjustments.
Pig Wrestling
Shown above is a group of youngers as they try their hand at catching a pig and putting it on the tire in the shortest time. No, these kids did not win but did they have fun in the mud. Larry Wilcher is shown in the middle of the pit as he has the job of being the official judge in this event. Larry and his crew have been doing this for many years and has been one of the main attractions at the Montgomery Turkey Trot on Sunday Afternoon.
2010 Entertainer Joe Diffie
Shown above is Joe Diffie during his performance. In spite of the rain over 2500 braved the elements to come out for his show. As the saying goes, the show must go on. On Saturday the sun came out and all the events went on as planned.
Cornhole Tournament
Show above is the Cornhole Tournament which was held on Saturday afternoon at the Montgomery Turkey Trot Annex. Over 35 Teams completed in the Tournament. Adam and Mick Huff from St. Anthony was the winning team in the Tournament.
2010 Entertainer Joe Diffie
Shown above is Kris Kavanaugh from Montgomery as she gets a chance of a life time as she gets to meet Joe Diffie backstage just prior to his performance at the Montgomery Turkey Trot this past Friday Night. Each entertainer at the Turkey Trot meets with a small group of fans prior to their shows and Kris was happy to be one of them. In spite of the light rain all day on Friday there was approximately 2500 people there for the show Friday night and they were not disappointed as Diffie gave a good performance.
Mud Vollyeball
Two teams go at it in Saturday’s action at the Mud Volleyball pit and as you can see the object in the air is now brown having started out as a white volleyball. Their mothers told them to stay out of the mud but as you can see they loved every minute of it. As usual, there is a waiting list to get into the Mud Volleyball match at the Montgomery Turkey Trot. It has been going on for years at the Turkey Trot and the interest still seems to be there. Though we endorse good clean fun occassionally a little mud does not hurt.
Turkey Race Finalist
Shown above are the five finalist in the Turkey Race held Sunday. From right to left is 1. Eric Wagler, 2. Kameron Graber, 3. Kaden Roark, 4. Jacob Wagler, 5. Noah Anderson. This picture was taken just prior to the race in which Kameron Graber who was at Post-2 won in a time of 16:41 seconds. He was just seconds ahead of Kaden Roark at 18:41 in second place and Eric Wagler in third place with an even 20 seconds. The Winner received a $200 savings bond and trophy; 2nd place $100 bond; 3rd place $50 bond.
Turkey Race Contestants
Shown here is Mitchell Kavanaugh (Post-4) a third Grader at Barr-Reeve Grade School as he gets his leach all together and timer Mike Kavanaugh lends a hand to assist the racer prior to the semi-final heat on Saturday night. The timer can help the racer prior to the race but once it starts, the racer is on it’s own. Kavanaugh led most of the race but was passed in the stretch by Noah Anderson to win this semi-final race and qualify for the Championship on Sunday.
Entertainment Crowd
Friday and Saturday Night Entertainers always draw a large crowd from Montgomery and surrounding areas.
